Urban Airship Announces Industry’s First Full-Featured Mobile Push and In-App Messaging Support for Amazon Fire Phone and Kindle Fire

PORTLAND, Ore., – June 24, 2014 – Urban Airship, the global leader in Mobile Relationship Management, today announced that its full platform capabilities with native support for Amazon Device Messaging will soon be available for apps developed for Fire phone and Kindle Fire. Apps developed for Amazon devices can leverage Urban Airship’s real-time mobile marketing automation capabilities with highly targeted push messaging and rich in-app content proven to drive four times greater response on average than messages broadcast to all users (Good Push Index data study, May 22, 2014).

“We’ve supported push messaging on Kindle Fire since it first launched and are thrilled to be bringing even greater relevancy, responsiveness and richer experiences to the Amazon ecosystem,” said Scott Kveton, co-founder and CEO, Urban Airship. “Apps designed for Amazon devices can now not only leverage fine-grain user controls and precise segmentation and targeting, but also easily respond to users’ actions in real-time and become more relevant with their every click.”

“We’re excited to work with Urban Airship to bring their latest generation of push messaging and real-time marketing automation solutions to developers building apps for Fire phone,” said Charlie Ward, director, Amazon Devices.  “Developers are already flocking to two Fire phone SDKs released just last week, and Urban Airship’s full support for Fire phone and Kindle Fire will help developers and their brands improve their mobile engagement efforts to amplify both users’ experiences and their business results.”

Urban Airship’s full-featured support for Amazon devices brings new capabilities to brands, enabling them to:

  • Reach all users, not just those opted in to push, with in-app message centers and highly targeted rich in-app content
  • At the app level, use location history profiles for highly targeted messages, along with any combination of users’ preferences, in-app behaviors, and customer data
  • Launch multi-step marketing automation campaigns such as a welcome series that adapt to users’ responses and behaviors with dynamic audience segmentation
  • Be less reliant on developers using a single, unified interface designed to streamline workflows for business users, from responsive-designed templates for rich in-app content, to deep-linking messages to landing pages anywhere in the app or on the mobile web

Brands like News UK see a growing portion of overall app activity originating from Kindle Fire HD devices, and currently use a legacy solution from Urban Airship to engage those users. By moving to natively support Amazon Device Messaging with its full feature-set, Urban Airship is enabling brands to leap forward in their ability to relevantly respond to users’ interactions and behaviors in real-time.

“Urban Airship helps NBC News deliver on mobile initiatives across all mobile platforms and all of our business divisions,” said Andrew Locke, VP of Mobile and Devices, NBC Universal News Group. “Newer enhancements now available for Amazon devices will make it easier for our globally dispersed teams to drive greater mobile engagement with all the news and entertainment we offer.”
