Board of Directors
John R. Johnston
John co-founded August Capital in 1995. Prior to that he served as a general partner with Technology Venture Investors (TVI) from 1988, and Hambrecht & Quist Venture Partners (H&Q) from 1983 to 1988. During his venture career, John has invested in more than 25 technology companies including Sybase, Intuit, Visio, Postini, Shopping.com and eShop.In addition to his U.S. venture capital experience, John worked in Hong Kong for five years at a pioneering Asian venture capital firm, Inter-Asia Management Co., Ltd. (IAM). While at IAM, he participated in investments such as McDonald’s Restaurants (HK) Ltd. and Ikea Furniture (HK) Ltd. John received an AB in English from Princeton University and an MBA from Harvard University. He is a past director of the Western Association of Venture Capitalists.
Chris has been scaling businesses as a C-level executive at public and private companies for over 25 years, and is considered a pioneer in developing data and platform strategies. Prior to joining Foundry Group, Chris was GM & VP of Twitter’s Data & Enterprise business and founder and CEO of Gnip. Prior to Gnip, Chris served in several executive roles including Chief Operating Officer at Aquent where he was responsible for daily operations of 70 teams in 17 countries. Chris began his career as a management and technology consultant working for EDS, Oracle and IBM. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University and in 2016 was designated an Auburn University Distinguished Engineer. Chris currently serves on Auburn’s Engineering Alumni Council.
Puneet Agarwal brings a strong mix of operating and venture capital experience to True Ventures and the companies he works with. At True, Puneet focuses on infrastructure and software applications specifically around cloud computing, open source, SaaS, and mobile. He currently sits on the board of LoopFuse, Puppet Labs and Airship. Prior to joining True, Puneet was the VP of Product Management at Geodesic Information Systems, which specializes in mobile and Internet communication products. Puneet holds a BS with honors in Industrial Engineering, Stanford University; MS in Industrial Engineering, Stanford University and is a Mayfield Fellow, Stanford University.
Wes Nichols is a serial technology entrepreneur and investor, as well as a Board Partner at Upfront Ventures, advising companies on digital transformation, predictive analytics, and AI/machine learning. Most recently, Wes was Chief Strategy Officer at Neustar (NYSE: NSR), taken private in $2.9 billion acquisition by Golden Gate Capital. A year earlier, Neustar acquired MarketShare, where Wes was co-founder and CEO MarketShare is now the industry’s leading solution for planning and attribution analytics of marketing resources, deploying by the CMOs of a half the Fortune 100. Prior to that Wes was the President, CEO of TBWA’s digital business at Omnicom Group (NYSE: OMC), following its acquisition of Direct Partners, which Wes founded and led as CEO. He currently serves in Board of Director roles for Airship, TrueCar (NASDAQ: TRUE), Persado, and GumGum, and is a Strategic Advisor to the leadership of SNAP (NYSE: SNAP) and comScore (NASDAQ: SCOR). He holds a BA in Psychology from Randolph-Macon College, where he is on the Board of Trustees, and an MA from The Johns Hopkins University.
