# Email Open Tracking Controls

Let email recipients grant or withdraw open-tracking consent through links in your email content, independently of their subscription.

Add opt-in and opt-out links for open tracking directly to your email content. When a recipient selects one of these links, Airship updates their tracking consent at the channel level and applies it to future sends, without affecting whether they continue to receive emails. This separation supports jurisdictions where open-tracking consent must be collected and withdrawn independently of email marketing consent, such as guidance from France's data protection authority, the CNIL.

You can add the links using the **Opt in to open tracking** and **Opt out of open tracking** actions in the Interactive editor, or directly in HTML or plaintext. As an alternative, Airship can configure your project to require recipient opt-in for open tracking on email channels by default.
